This summer has once again been a busy time for the choir. Apart from our many concerts and wedding bookings, the choir agreed to take part in a massed choir concert organised by the North Wales Association of Male Voice Choirs to celebrate the Association’s fortieth Anniversary. A further seven choirs also signed up for the concert. Following the choir agreeing to take part, it was an honour for Arwyn Roberts, our Musical Director, along with Huw Dunsley of Flint Male Voice Choir, to be chosen by the Association’s festival committee as the two conductors for the concert.
Preparation for the concert involved a great deal of practice of the pieces of music chosen for the programme, which had to be fitted in with our normal practices for our concerts and weddings. In addition, the choir had to attend two massed choir practices in Wrexham prior to the concert.
The concert was held at the William Aston Hall in Wrexham on the evening of Saturday 10th October 2009 and was hailed by everyone as a great success.
The choir would like to thank Arwyn and our accompanist Joyce Davies, for their dedication and hard work in ensuring that we knew all our work in readiness for the concert.
We would also like to thank our loyal band of choir supporters from St Thomas’ Church, Denbigh, who organised a coach to travel to Wrexham and support us and Arwyn at the concert. It was very much appreciated and you certainly made yourselves heard with the applause!!
All profits from the concert are to be donated to the Children’s Ward at Wrexham Maelor Hospital, a very worthy cause indeed. This is yet another example of Male Voice Choirs giving freely of their time and services to raise much needed funds for local charities.
On the following Saturday, 17th October 2009, it was the choir’s privilege to take part in a Festival of Remembrance evening at Denbigh Town Hall organised by the Denbigh Branch of the Royal British Legion to start off this year’s Poppy Appeal. The choir has strong links with the Royal British Legion and has, for quite a number of years, attended the Remembrance Sunday Service at the Cenotaph in Denbigh to lead the hymn singing and lay a wreath during the service. The ‘Legion’ do so much good work supporting our servicemen, ex-servicemen and their families and ensuring that we all remember those who gave up their lives in wars in order that we are able to enjoy the freedom that we have today. It was, therefore, a pleasure to take part in the evening of music, readings and song. The choir wishes the Royal British Legion a successful year with the Poppy Appeal
